In Greek mythology, the Chimera was a monstrous hybrid creature, often depicted with the body and head of a lion, a goat's head rising from its back, and a serpent for a tail. Said to have been born from the union of Typhon and Echidna, the Chimera ravaged the lands of Lycia, breathing fire and spreading terror until the hero Bellerophon, with the help of the winged horse Pegasus, managed to slay the beast.
